Amazon Associates Affiliate OneLink Feature

I was surprised to read an email sent by Amazon Associates this morning when I woke up, in a good way. Finally, they are introducing an exciting new feature – OneLink. In short, what it does is monetize the traffic on your site from UK and Canada. I wasn’t expecting them to implement this so soon and it truly is a great news. I went ahead and set it up and it was easier than I thought it would be.

Why You Should Use OneLink

I always knew that we are leaving money on the table if we neglect the traffic from other countries. However, it could be troublesome if you wanted to monetize traffic from countries outside of the US. You can either set up the links manually (register and grab the affiliate id for each country) or use a 3rd party plugin/service.

The first one is obviously troublesome and most would opt for the latter. But the thing is, 3rd party plugins/services could have gone rogue, or something like a compatibility issue between plugins (as mentioned by Tung in this post) would have messed up the affiliate links and affect your commissions. That was the main reason I rather not waste my time to monetize none US traffic.

However, thing changes when Amazon is providing such feature.

How to Set Up OneLink – Step by Step (10 minutes top)

Are you worrying about taking a long time to convert your existing links? Don’t worry about it because that is something that you do not need to do manually (I thought I had to). Follow the step by step guide and you will get it up and running in less than 10 minutes.

Step 1

Sign up an account for Amazon UK here – and Amazon CA here –

Step 2

Once you have signed up, login your Amazon Associates US account, click on “tools” and select “OneLink”.

Step 3

Click on “click here to link” to start mapping your Store ID for proper traffic redirection.

Step 4

Verify both by logging in respective accounts (UK & CA).

Step 5

Click on “get the code here” under oneTag, copy and integrate the code into the footer of your site.

Step 6 – Optional

Choose “Close Product Match” or “Exact Product Match”. It is “Close Product Match” by default. I’d say keep the default setting as suggested to increase monetization.

That’s it! We are done! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. And don’t forget to check out the FAQ sections.

Why UK and CA Only?

I believe there must be a reason to it. So, I pulled the traffic data from one of my sites to analyze the traffic source based on countries and made a chart.

As you can see from the chart, my top 3 traffics are from United States, Canada, United Kingdom, the rest are almost negligible. 11% of the traffic are coming from Canada and United Kingdom. I reckon by using the OneLink feature, we should experience at least 5 – 10% increase in earnings.

How much should I expect to earn?

It depends on your traffic. Based on my traffic data, I’m expecting 5 – 10% increase in earnings. I’ll post an update at the end of the month and see how it goes.

Where do I insert the code?

You can either edit your theme directly and place the code on the footer or use a plugin to do so, such as

Do I have to use the same store ID?

No, you don’t have to. At first I thought we have to use the same store ID for Amazon UK and CA, but it turns out we just need to map the store ID later (step 3).
