Microsoft Latest Update on OneDrive Policy – Good or Bad?

Cloud Storage
Written by Bryan

Microsoft made an announcement On 2nd November 2015 of the important changes to OneDrive storage plans for consumers.

Four things they were gonna do:

  • Remove the unlimited storage offer to Office 365 Home, Personal, or University subscribers.
  • Replace the 100 GB and 200 GB paid plans with a 50 GB plan at $1.99 per month.
  • Free OneDrive storage will be reduced from 15 GB to 5 GB for all users (current and new).
  • Remove the 15 GB Camera Roll storage bonus.

All these changes are going to roll out in early 2016. But, there is a new announcement made by Microsoft that might be good for users who are planning to keep using the free OneDrive storage. They will let users keep their 15 GB of free cloud storage and 15 GB Camera Roll bonus storage.

What’s the Catch?

You have to opt in to the offer manually and agree to receive promotional emails from OneDrive. You might be able to unsubscribe from them in the future but there is no clear instruction on how to do that yet.

Conclusion

If you use OneDrive as much as me then it is a good news for you and you should opt in as soon as possible, which I just did. Promotional email from Microsoft should not be worse than some of the internet marketers out there right? 🙂

Oops here’s the link to the Microsoft opt in page
